Do I have to be able to read music to join the choir or have a singing lesson?

Musical experience helps, but it is not a requirement for lessons or joining the choir.

Please come to sessions with an open mind and willing to have a go.

For those of you who like to have sheet music, please note that I teach all songs by ear. In the choir setting, you will be asked not to use sheet music/words.

Do I need to audition to join the choir?

You do not need to audition to join our community choirs, workshops or have singing lessons.

Do I have to be religious to sing in your choir?

No, you do need to be religious to sing in Bright Soul Choir.

We welcome people from all walks of life – the more diverse the better. We tend to rehearse in church spaces because the acoustics are fantastic, but we are not linked to a church.

Some of the songs we sing will have religious references and content.

How do you teach 1:1 lessons on Zoom?

The best way to understand the process of Zoom teaching is to book a half-hour taster session at a cost of £12.

I use a keyboard for warm-ups and any technical support. I also ask you to sing along to backing tracks, so will need to come with a phone or music player to play the tracks. This will make the experience much more enjoyable. Singing lessons are a 2-way process, so ask questions and be willing to try new things.

If I book for a lesson or choir term and change my mind can I get a refund?

For Choir & Lessons. taster sessions are available so you can try before you buy.

For Choir workshops and terms, you can cancel and get a full refund up to 48 hours before the start of term. After this point no refunds are available. Nevertheless, life happens and I am always happy to talk through individual circumstances to see how I can help.

For singing lessons, I need one week’s notice if you wish to re-schedule or cancel and receive a full refund. Thereafter I can offer a 50% refund with 3 days notice (72 hours). After this point, there are no refunds.

What about Covid-19?

When we return to in-person rehearsals, you will be asked to comply with COVID-19 measures for the safety and collective health of our choir. These will be provided prior to the term and updated as required. You should note that if we are forced into a lockdown situation during the term we will continue rehearsals online or switch to outdoor rehearsals – whichever is permitted and practicable at the time. I reserve the right to change the location in the best interests of the group.
